Navigation and Helm training

We took MR1 on a navigation excercise to the moorings at Mana Island, Green Point, Titahi Bay and home.

Crew members worked on:

  • Use of radar to determine distance and bearing of land features
  • Use of radar to keep a safe distance off the land
  • Plotting a route with multiple waypoints and giving the helmsman instructions on course to steer, etc
  • Clear communications between nav and helm
  • Not getting seasick at the nav station when under way in rough seas!
