Three divers went missing from a group of five during a dive near the south end of Kapiti Island. The dive boat they were with lost track of their bubbles, and they weren't towing a marker buoy, after they were swept away from the dive area via strong currents. They surfaced together later and were swept further away from the area and the boat.

Coastguard Mana was dispatched to assist in the search alongside Coastguard Kapiti and Westpac Rescue helicopter.

A search pattern to the west of Kapiti Island was started and the three divers were located safe and well huddled together NW of the dive location.
