During training a report came in of a dinghy that had broken down up at Pukerua Bay with three people on board. CRV Pelorus took some new recruits off Trust Porirua Rescue (that had been training) and TPR immediately responded to the scene.

Light was fading by this stage and finding the dinghy in the dark was very difficult as they did not have any form of lighting or signalling equipment with them, no VHF, and their cellphone battery was dying - an all too common occurance!

A Coastguard Mana volunteer drove to Pukerua Bay at the same time and was able to assist from a vantage point on the hill and helped quide TPR to the stricken vessel.

Due to the lack of light, the vessel was then towed back to Plimmerton Boating Club. Once on shore a Coastguard Mana volunteer drove one of the people back to Pukerua Bay to pick up the tow vehicle and trailer.
