Yacht returning from Marlborough Sounds. Engine failed and he called Police via cellphone to advise that he required assistance to return to Mana Marina.

He continued sailing until we located him south of Mana Island. We advised that the tides were unsuitable to cross the bar at this time and advised him to sail across to the mooring at Mana Island.

When he got near the mooring Coastguard Mana took him under tow and towed him onto the mooring. He will spend the night on the Mana Cruising Club mooring at Mana Island before being towed back to Mana Marina first thing in the morning once the tide is correct and there is enough depth across the bar.
