Coastguard Mana provided on-water support for the Porirua Grand Traverse kayaking leg. We provided 3 support vessels - CRV Pelorus as well as a JetSki and a RHIB owned by two of our active volunteers.

We were asked to coordinate the water component of the support crew/marshals and worked with vessels from Plimmerton Boating Club and Titahi Bay Boating Club to provide coverage throughout Porirua Harbour, under the Paremata Bridge and into Paremata Harbour.

No incidents were reported and all kayakers returned safely to the finish point at the launching ramp near Whitireia Polytech in Porirua.

The wind, 25kt gusting 35kt from the South in the morning, caused the race officials to call off the children's Waka races at 10am. It eased slightly for the kayakers though and did not reach the 45kt predicted windspeed for the afternoon.
