A 55 feet long, 18 feet wide and 14 feet high Kiddiepillar is getting set to stampede on Hampton Hill School. The inflatable kiddiepillar is one of many activities that will feature at the Tawa based school’s third annual gala. Other activities include mini jeeps, a bouncy castle, raffles, garage sale, silent auctions, flashing LED toys and necklace stall as well as refreshments - cake stall, Devonshire teas, sausage sizzle, hamburgers, hot chips and candy floss. Gala Coordinator Kathryn Henshaw says along side the activities will be displays from school family members who either work or volunteer within our community. Displays include the Mana Coastguard new Naiad 5.3m boat, an ambulance, police car, fire engine and vintage car. The school's Kapa Haka group will also be treating guests to a performance at 12 noon. Funds raised from the gala will go towards the purchasing of eight laptops, at a total cost of $8,000. Mrs Henshaw says a laptop will be placed in each of the schools classrooms. In fact the school only recently opened an additional classroom, boosting the number of classrooms from seven to eight, due to a rise in the school’s role. “The laptops will further add to the classroom resources we have available for the students,” Mrs Henshaw said. The gala will be held at Hampton Hill School, entrance via Victory Crescent, September 15 beginning 10am ending 1pm. In addition, Mrs Henshaw says, the school is very interested in hearing from anyone interested in donating items for the garage sale. “We have received great responses from local businesses that have kindly donated items for prizes,” Mrs Henshaw said. “However we are struggling to cover the hiring costs of the Kiddiepillar, even though we a hiring it at a good price. We have been given great donations from North City Motors and Metal Immersions Ltd but unfortunately we have a shortfall of $200,” she said.
